DFKI’s Speech
and Language Technology Department (SLT) addresses the use
of AI for analysing, generating and interacting through spoken and
written language. Its focus is on information extraction from
written text and from spoken language, on knowledge technologies,
and on interactive chatbots. We are particularly interested in
core research on learning in low-resource settings, reasoning over
larger contexts, and continual learning. We strive for a deeper
understanding of human language and thinking, with the goal of
developing novel methods for processing and generating human
language text, speech, and knowledge. An important part of our
work is the creation of corpora, the evaluation of NLP datasets
and tasks, and the explainability of (neural) models.

In order to strengthen our dedicated team in Berlin we are
looking for

Student assistants (m/f/d) (part-time, temporary)

Your Tasks

Support in researching and developing methods for information
extraction - including named entity recognition, relation
extraction, e.g. via prompting/ChatGPT, fine-tuning of language
models

Implementation of models, conducting experiments and assisting
with evaluation/data work

Your Qualifications

Advanced/completed bachelor's degree or started master's

Experience with deep learning/NLP frameworks such as PyTorch,
HuggingFace, LangChain, with prompting and large language models
such as GPT3.5/4, Llama2, and knowledge in related areas such as
linguistics or mathematics are an advantage

Your Benefits

The advertised position offers

a broad and interesting range of tasks, room for creativity,
and working in a dynamic and international team
