Are you a (bio-)medical student wanting to get into cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging?
Are you a Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Maths or Physics student searching for a purposeful application of your machine learning, computer graphics and/or web-development skills?
If the answer is YES for any of the above, read on!
We are very happy the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) put their trust in us, organizing a Student Research Opportunities X-Tutorial. In this student-driven research project we have the chance to collaboratively work in a multidisciplinary research project for 2 Semesters with students from all BUA-Universities, (Charité, Freie Universität, Humboldt-Universität and Technische Universität) to enable the future of non-invasive quantitative cardiovascular imaging.
Our goal is to develop a machine-learning-based semi-automated workflow for non-invasive quantitative tissue characterization by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) for use in volunteers and cardiomyopathy patient cohorts. The Project will take place at the working group on CMR at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and is aimed at advanced BSc/MSc as well as biomedical students having completed the M1 or similar (advanced BSc or MSc students). Participants will have the opportunity to choose between a technical and clinical track to gain experience in cardiac imaging, machine-learning, web-development and multi-disciplinary medical imaging research. Following a structured onboarding phase, students in the technical team will concentrate on model and web-app-development while the clinical team focusses on image analysis and clinical feedback. Both groups will be supervised by a team of multidisciplinary researchers from the working group on CMR. There will be weekly meetings on Monday afternoon (14:00-16:00 pm) with all group members to foster the multidisciplinary exchange between groups. Furthermore, we are planning additional group organized sessions on demand. All group members will gain access to the DataScience platform DataCamp for the duration of the project. In addition, we consider organizing monthly social events with the whole working group.
The project will be available as a module via the BUA-Website and the usual platforms (Ignis, Moses, etc.)
It will be valid for 6 Credit Points per semester (12 ECTS in total) either for the free choice sector, ABV (FU) or the Promotionskolleg (Charité) upon completion.
